Passage 2

All the characters of Scotland can be found as soon as you cross the Border (边境): in the scenery (风景), sometimes green and rolling, sometimes rugged and wild; in the small towns and rural by-ways of the Borders or Galloway; in the fresh, invigorating (充满活力)air of the East Lothian or Ayshire coasts; or in the rich countryside and heritage of the Forth and Clyde valleys.

Yet, there is a lot more than scenery.

There's plenty to see and do all year round; the many historic (历史意义的)towns and castles (城堡)are varied and magnificent, both in their appearance and history; there's a wealth of wildlife and nature to be enjoyed in the unspoilt countryside ---the bird sanctuary at Caerlaverock on the Solway coast, the rambling (蔓生的)woodlands of the Galloway forest park or the gentle country around the River Tweed which has helped produce the textile industry, so much a part of this region where you pick up the best mill shop bargains.

For the more active, there is plenty to occupy you. Watersports, from windsurfing to padding, riding, mountain-biking, off-road driving and not forgetting golf. As well as the most famous championship courses, there are any number of challenging games to be played from Dunfermling to Dumfries and even if your game is not up to scratch, the scenery will be!
