Title 1 is suggested to be revised into “Effects of Ideological Differences on English-Chinese Translation” because it fails to associate itself with translation study.
Title 2 is suggested to be revised into “Bridging the Cultural Gap: A Case Study of English-Chinese Translation of Business Letters” because it did not specify its research focus—the role of culture in translation. In addition, Business English is too general a subject to be dealt with in a BA thesis, so it is advised to narrow the scope of research down to a certain type of business documents such as business letters.
For the similar reason, Title 3 is suggested to be revised into “A Comparative Study between Pride and Prejudice and Its Chinese Translation”.
Titles 4 and 5 were not expressed in clear or correct English. They are respectively suggested to be revised into “Application of Grammatical Analysis of Long English Sentences in Science and Technology Translation” and “Fulfillment of Cross-cultural Communication in Translating English Advertisements to Chinese”.
Title 6 breaks an academic convention that all the words in a topic should be capitalized except for articles, conjunctions or prepositions unless they are in the initial position of the topic. Therefore, this title is suggested to be revised into “Different Types of English Attributive Clauses and Their Translation Strategies”. Nevertheless, there is an option that is to capitalize only the first word as in “Different types of English attributive clauses and their translation strategies”.
To sum up, a good title is expected to be relevant to translation study, specific in research focus and expressed in proper English. |
