Two Samples of Students' Practical Projects

Note to the Appendix

For both students and tutors, two samples of students' practical projects are included. In order to give you an authetic picture of what real-life students' projects look like, no editing has been made on the original texts, although the original formats and layouts have been slightly altered in order to cut the length of the appendix to its tolerable size.

Note that the samples should not be treated as the models for students to follow blindly.

The authors of the present book would like to take this opportunity to thank the two students who are kind enough to allow their projects to be included in the appendix.

Appendix D: diaries

Week 1
Date: Tuesday,May 25,1999
ĦĦAs usual, when I said that we were going to write something, the students shrug their shoulders. As if they are going to have a test. I noticed a little girl in the front. She frowned. It was Zhou Ling. She is below average. I told them the four steps of doing this kind of writing. I wrote them on the blackboard. I analyzed a piece of writing. They became understand and began to write. After they finished, they looked at the blackboard and began to correct by themselves. They did what I said carefully.
ĦĦAnother period of time, I gave the marked paper to them and ask them to write down the reasons. After the typical error analysis by the teacher, they felt much better. They can understand me. After some remedial exercises. They can do a good job. I'm certain that they will never make this kind of mistakes.

Week 2
Date: Tuesday, June 1,1999
ĦĦI'm very glad that my students become more active in my writing class and error correction class. Especially when I ask them to discuss in groups, check in pairs. They like what I have done for them. The whole lesson went smoothly. I found Zhou Lin was smiling. She did her writing quite well. I was surprised to see it.

Week 3
Date: Tuesday, June 8,1999
ĦĦThis period of time, I dealt with the writing of model test paper. Like the steps of the last two weeks, I ask them first to correct by themselves, then I ask some volunteers to come to the blackboard. To my surprise, they are more active then I expected. They come to the front, they correct the mistakes. Zhou Lin cried:" How time flies! It's so interesting." They like writing and they are willing to correct their mistakes. I am more than happy.
